Better World Books offers a completely free program for organisations to dispose of unwanted books, while generating funding for themselves and a literacy charity. Better World Books does this by selling books at Betterworldbooks.co.uk and 9 other marketplaces. Each book sold generates funds for the organisation and a literacy charity; any books not sold are donated to charity or responsibly recycled. Since Better World Books’ launch in the UK in October 2008 it has over 600 clients which include 45% of the public library systems and 57% of University and College libraries in the UK. In less than 3 years Better World Books has generated over £200,000 for their client and charity partners, whilst keeping 2,000,000 books from landfill, planting 110 trees for carbon offsets, and creating 28 jobs in Scotland.
